It’s time again to support the young people of Portsmouth that we care so dearly about. It’s GRADUATION time at the Portsmouth Secondary School, PSS!
We are excited about PSS Graduation class of 2014 because, like the group before them this group of students have been working hard and have represented our school, city, and Dominica well. Our students continue to lead in athletics and academics, competing and winning in a number the schools competitions across the country.
This year our Students have advanced to the third round of the Kiwanis high school debate competition, where they successfully opposed the topic, “With the increased premium placed on tertiary education by society, academic qualifications should be a pre-requisite for political office.” In the third round they successfully opposed in the debate on, “Marijuana for recreational purposes should be legalized because the economic benefits far outweigh the disadvantages.” They are currently preparing for the next debate challenge.
Impressively, a group of intelligent vibrant and industrious young entrepreneurs were there to represent PSS, Portsmouth and Dominica, among 21 countries at the International Junior Achiever of the Year Award in Mexico. Their products, “Nature’s Essentials” which includes balms, body splash, body moisturizer, and a warm body cloth are now distributed by Green’s Wholesale’s. We are very proud! At least two of these students will be in the graduating class of 2014.
We appeal for your assistance in making this a special day for this group of young people. Our commitment means a lot and helps shape the lives of the students, their school and the community of Portsmouth. We are asking for your assistance; sponsorship of an award to a deserving student selected by the staff of PSS. These awards will be in the category of academics or athletics.
Our pledge to the young people of the community of Portsmouth runs deep. In that respect, a group of us have formed and registered a non-profit organization, “TEUKE OUHAYO” , the Kalinago term for “Precious Portsmouth”. Our current Board of Directors are, Gregory Vidal, Kirtis Langlais, Wayne Augustine and Ashton Riviere. Our operating motto is, “Elevating the lives of the Portsmouth youth.” We pledge that 100% of the donations will go towards that goal. This corporation is both strategic and necessary. It will allow us to better accommodate donations (through credit/ debit or bank transfer), be more successful at fund raising from businesses and most importantly, allow our contributors like yourself to receive US federal tax credits for your donations.
